While HTC plans on launching its highly-touted One M10 on April 12, buyers cannot really decide which flagship has a perfect blend of all ingredients. There have been some mind-boggling launches this year, which clearly creates the problem of picking the best one. LG’s G5, Samsung’s Galaxy S7, and Xiaomi’s Mi5, they all have been good, and have managed to lure buyers with a bunch of new features and stunning form-factor.
So the question is how good HTC will do against the likes of renowned tech-giants and a strong Xiaomi, offeringtwo super cool iterations of Mi5? The flagship from the Chinese giant runs on the same processor that we expect to see on One M10 and flaunts a design that is just hard to ignore. From all this, it has become pretty evident that it will not be an easy win-win situation for HTC as the phone has a lot on offer at a prolific price bracket!
Here’s what have on both phones!
- Design: Xiaomi’s Class vs HTC’s Perfection
HTC and Xiaomi both have come a long way, especially on the design front. Both companies have managed to offer tempting smartphones with a design that just looks amazing. The Chinese giant has upgraded its smartphone line-up with complete perfection! We did love Mi4 and its other variants, but the new Mi5 takes design standards to a whole new level. The phone features a full metal body with Gorilla Glass 4 on the front and back, and incorporates a sassy, Galaxy S7 inspired curve, turning towards the edges. It looks majestic from all angles, fits nicely in one hand, and boasts an elongated home-button mixed with a snappy fingerprint scanner.
On the other side, HTC continues its good work with a design that looks very much inspired from previous One series smartphones and the most recent One A9. As per rumour mill, the metal-clad flagship will bear a full metal body, with iPhone-like aesthetics and a home-button integrated fingerprint scanner. The back panel of the device will bear tweaked circular camera with flash on its right. Several leaks and renders have confirmed a lot about One M10’s body, which definitely looks very premium and sturdy!
- Display: Full-HD Vs Quad-HD
In terms of display, there is no real competition between Mi5 and HTC One M10, but that doesn’t mean Mi5 has got nothing on offer. It incorporates an impressive 5.1-incher full-HD IPS display, which does endow you a good visual experience with rich colours and perfect viewing angles. It might lack some pixel density against the heavily rumoured 5.1/5.2-incher Quad-HD display of HTC One 10, but trust us, there’s nothing here to let you down! And, as we mentioned, it even comes protected with Gorilla Glass 4 on top.
The Quad-HD display of One M10 will be sharper and crisp as on Galaxy S7 and LG G5, but there’s still no word whether it will be an IPS or an AMOLED panel.
- Identical Performance and Innards
On the hardware front, both phones are expected to bring identical specs with more or less similar performance.According to the rumour mill, HTC One M10 will incorporate the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor that ships with Mi5 and Mi5 Pro Edition. The Taiwanese company will probably pair this chipset with 4GB RAM and Adreno 530 graphics, which Xiaomi is already offering with its high-end variant of Mi5. As for storage, One M10 is tipped to feature 32GB on-board with a micro-SD card slot, while Xiaomi continues with no SD card policy and boasts 64GB built-in storage for Mi5 Standard Edition and 128GB for the Pro Edition.
It is also worth noting that in recent AnTuTu benchmark leaks, HTC One M10 scored a blazing156091, and was followed right away with Xiaomi Mi5 scoring 136875. Though this is just a leak, these scores clearly reveal that there wouldn’t too much difference in the overall of both beauties!
- Camera: 16MP Vs 12-UltraPixels
Here, we expect HTC One M10 to stand out against a disappointing Xiaomi. For a price under 30k, the 16MPf/2.0 camera bundled with Xiaomi Mi5 looks fairly good and impressive. It delivers sharp images with snappy autofocus, but when we take it up against Galaxy S7 and other high-end players, there is not much to like about! It includes an f/2.0 aperture with Phase Detection Autofocus and 4-axis OIS, but fails to deliver the quality which we expect from a premium flagship.
On the other end, HTC One M10 is rumoured to incorporate a prolific 12-UltraPixel camera with an aperture as wide as f/1.9 and Laser Autofocus technology. From where we see, the camera bundled with this device will definitely take a dig against Mi5 and all other players in the game!
- Android 6.0 Marshmallow
On the software front, just like any other flagship launched in 2016, Mi5 and HTC One M10 will also run the latest iteration Android right out-of-the box. Mi5 will be company’s first smartphone to run Android 6.0 out-of-the box, while One M10 will be HTC’s second player with Marshmallow (One A9 being first). The two phones promise a bunch of new features with snappy and lag-free performance.
However, despite running Android 6.0, the UI bundled with both phones will make a hell lot of a difference. Xiaomi features its proprietary MIUI 7 with a slew of customizations and colourful app-icons, while HTC promises more of a stock Android experience with native Android dialler and other elements in itssuccessful Sense 8.0.
Bottom Line
So, this makes it very clear, Xiaomi Mi5 and HTC One M10 will have a close face-off this summer. Both phones incorporate powerful innards and pack a strong punch against leading players in the game. Xiaomi Mi5 is gifted with majestic design, performance, and affordable pricing, while HTC One M10 will bring superb hardware performance, battery life and camera output on offer!
